Guide · vendor rules · checked October 22, 2026
Prometric publishes its rules per state, in separate Candidate Information Bulletins, in bureaucratese. Aggregated from the bulletins (Florida's and Louisiana's are explicit), the money rules are these:
Two forms of ID, and the name must match the application exactly. Florida's bulletin charges the full exam fee if you are denied admission for invalid ID. The classic trigger is a legal name change — marriage, divorce — between applying and testing. Apply under the name on the ID you will actually carry, and read our name-change guide if yours changed mid-process.
Rescheduling typically costs $25–$30 at 5 or more business days before the test — and inside that window the full fee is forfeited (Florida: $30 / full fee; Louisiana: $25 / full fee). A late or no-show doesn't move your test; it deletes your payment.
You retake only the part you failed, at that part's price — Florida: written $35, skills $120 (of a $155 first attempt); Texas: written $33, skills $92 (of $125); New York's full exam is $115. Attempt limits are state-set: Texas allows 3 attempts per part; run out and training comes back into the conversation. The full retake math is in failed one part?
Fees are first-attempt combined totals from the dataset, checked October 22, 2026; your state's bulletin is the authority for your test date. The cross-vendor traps are collected in the exam-day guide.
