Guide · Indiana renewal walkthrough · checked October 22, 2026
Indiana runs a hybrid renewal system: Your initial certification is valid for 2 years and must be renewed through the Online Licensing System (MyLicense One) to stay active. You must have worked at least 8 hours in nursing or nursing-related activities during each 2-year renewal cycle. Private care hours are NOT accepted in Indiana. Renewal is free.
MyLicense One — Indiana's Online Licensing System (mylicense.in.gov) — registry: Indiana Aides Registry (Indiana Department of Health) · 317-233-7442.
Renewal is free. (Transferring into Indiana is a different door — IDOH's current reciprocity page lists no fee and no exam; older guides quoting $65 plus a written-exam retake describe the pre-Sept-2025 rules.)
The 8-month line changes the process, not just the paperwork: past it, you cannot self-renew online at all — an employer's form has to reach the Registry. Let the certification sit unrenewed for roughly 2 years and the record moves to “Registry History” status, from which there is no renewal at all — only a state-approved training program and both exams again. Indiana's rules were re-confirmed on IDOH pages in October 2026; the Registry is at (317) 233-7442 if any form looks different from the steps above.
Renewal instructions assume you're still inside the window. If you're not sure you are, run the status checker with your real dates first — it computes active, at-risk, or lapsed and names your cheapest route back. Your state's full rule table, lapse tiers, and transfer-in verdicts live on the Indiana state page. The general mechanics behind every state's renewal are in CNA renewal, explained plainly.
